1995 DUCATI 900SS SUPERSPORT

1995 DUCATI 900SS SUPERSPORT

DUCATI 900SS Supersport first registered in October 1995, Racing red with bronze frame and 3 spoke alloy wheels, later 3 clock dash – speedo, tacho and temp, original UK bike with 20,000 miles from new. Last of the real Ducati family line. Recent cam belt service and 12 months MOT. Original Ducati Warranty and Maintenance book, Owner’s manual and tool kit along with original passenger seat hump. All MOTs from 3 years old, many invoices supporting the service history. Four owners from new. Start it up to make you smile.

The 1991 Ducati 900SS Supersports were produced with white chrome molybdenum steel frames and white wheels. The swingarms used needle bearings instead of bushings as in the past. Brakes from the Ducati 851 were used on the Supersport vastly improving braking performance. All new bodywork and a pivoting fuel tank were elegantly shaped. The revised Supersports were met with immediate success and became wildly popular. Even though the 1991 Supersport was extremely well developed, Ducati would continue to refine the bike over the years.

From 1991 to 1998, the model was called 900SS, and was available with a full (SS) or half fairing (SS/CR). 1992 saw the addition to the SS/SL (Superlight). In 1994, to further differentiate the 900 from smaller Supersports, more models were released in addition to the Superlight. The 900 SS/SP (Sport Production) was offered to the North American market only. This model had carbon fiber fenders and clutch cover, sound damping material, adjustable Showa suspension, and an aluminum swingarm. The Superlight had the same options as the SS SP but with a single seat and upswept mufflers. The CR’s came with a non adjustable suspension, a steel swingarm, and a narrower 4.5-inch rear wheel and 160 section rear tire. Many riders feel the aluminum swingarms are more desirable.

In 1997, as Supersport sales were declining due to the popularity of the Ducati Monster and Ducati Superbike lines, Ducati attempted to keep the model alive with a few final changes. Yellow was added as a color option, an additional air intake was added as well as new, bolder graphics; namely the “Ducati” emblazoned across the entire side of the Supersport body panel.

In 1998, only 200 red and 200 yellow SS/CR’s were imported to the United States. They featured the last of the Cagiva graphics and elephant but had 1998 spec. motors with new pistons, cylinders and lower mounted oil cooler. A final series Supersport the SS/FE (Final Edition) was also available in 98, but featured the new Pacific graphics, came only in silver with black wheels, had the single seat and upswept exhausts of the Superlight and represented the last carburated Supersport.

The value of a good Ducati 900SS Supersport has been steadily growing in recent years. This is mainly because the bikes are very good – they handle well, have plenty enough performance and character, but moreover, they are a Ducati and Ducati have the same draw in the motorcycle world as Ferrari in the sports car world. If you have a Ducati in your garage, it has a lot of credibility and it’s a bike you will enjoy owning. Now that the best original mid 70’s Ducati 900 Supersports are being sold for £80,000, these 1990s Ducati Supersports appear to be remarkable value for money. My advice : Buy one now, because in a few year’s time, they won’t be this price.

1977 YAMAHA XT500 D

1977 YAMAHA XT500 D

1977 Yamaha XT 500

1977 YAMAHA XT500 D – First registered in the UK February 1977, white with the beige and red tank decal, 22509  original miles. UK bike in standard specification. This is the first of what was the MKII version of the XT500 with the full high rise exhaust and snow shovel aluminium bash plate. This model remained unchanged apart from colours and decals until the 1980 MKIII model arrived with the gold anodised wheel rims. These are now cult bikes and have a tremendous following. One ride on an XT500 and you will be forever wanting one..

The Yamaha XT500 is a twin-valve single cylinder enduro adventure motorcycle / trail bike made by Yamaha from 1975 until 1989. It shares its power plant with the street version SR500 and its full off road brother, the Yamaha TT500. All parts such as the engine, transmission and chassis were produced in Japan. Kickstart only..

The first XT 500 was shown at the US dealer convention in September 1975, and in Europe in the summer of 1976. The bike became an instant success and was produced until 1989 when it was replaced by four-valve engines. It laid the ground for the later range of XT bikes ranging from 125 cc to the current 660 cc XT660 Tenere and contributed largely to Yamaha’s image. In France alone, 62,000 XT 500s were sold from 1976 to 1990.

The XT500 won the first big African rallies, which were on the rise in the late seventies. It started with Paris–Abidjan-Nice and then the Paris – Dakar Rally, which confirmed the supremacy of the XT 500 and the rise of the bike’s cult status. Bengt Aberg competed in the 1977 500cc World Motocross Championship on a highly modified Yamaha XT500 built in collaboration with former world champions Torsten Hallman and Sten Lundin – the Yamaha HL500. Åberg rode the bike to victory in the first moto of the 1977 500cc Luxembourg Grand Prix and ended the season ranked 9th in the final world championship standings.

Famous for being the villain’s choice of motorcycle in the James Bond film – For Your eyes Only.

The 21-inch front wheel and the 18-inch rear with enduro-style tyres make it fit for both on- and off-road use. Seat height and ground clearance are adequate and the machine has the typical dual-purpose handling characteristics, which makes it suitable for a wide range of duties, from crossing rough city roads to country lanes or paths.

Owners will recall tall stories of being thrown over the handlebars from a backfire whilst kicking it over, but provided all is properly set up, these bikes will go on forever.

The XT range debuted in 1976 with the XT500 four-stroke single. Later, other models followed, spreading from XT125 to the latest XT660. Both the XT and TT ranges represent the typical Yamaha model development consistency, with model refinements over a long period of time.

DUCATI 900SS DESMO SUPER SPORT 1978

DUCATI 900SS DESMO SUPER SPORT

One of the true greats in motorcycle history.

1978 DUCATI 900SS DESMO SUPER SPORT – 6,500 miles from new with amazingly, only one owner, silver metallic with blue decals and wire spoked  wheels. Truly outstanding condition and benefiting from a recent service and detail. They really don’t come any better than this.  These machines are the pinnacle of Ducati history and as such are highly collectible. The 1978 model is generally considered by those in the know, to be the bike to have in a collection AND YOU CAN’T STOP SMILING WHEN YOU START IT..

1975–1981 Square Case Super Sport

In 1975, two versions of the Super Sport were made available based on the 864 cc “square-case” 90-degree twin cylinder motor; the full 864 cc version known as the 900 and a sleeved down 750. 250 examples of each were produced but the 750 and 900 are virtually identical. The 1975 Super Sport continued to use the right-side gear shift, contradicting the 1974 U.S. regulation that all bikes must have the gear shifting on the left side of the engine. Despite this, a handful of right side Super Sports have made it into the United States.

Most of the subsequent changes made to the Super Sport model were to comply with global legislation. Quieter mufflers, relocated gear lever and rear brake and new foot pegs. The biggest improvement was the redesign of the kick-starter. On the 1975 model the kick starter could rotate around and shift the transmission into first gear. If the bike was not on the center-stand the rider could potentially have a very unpleasant surprise.

Because the price of the 750 Super Sport was very similar to the 900, BUT very few 750s were produced with the majority of them being shipped to Australia, Germany or staying in Italy for racing applications.

By 1978 the bikes looked identical, but several significant improvements had made their way into the motor, making them more reliable and solving problems with engine crankshafts breaking. The electronics also improved as well as some minor timing tweaks making the bike run more efficiently. Most notable was a majorly redesigned gear lever that made the bike a lot easier for owners to live with and ride. Most 1978 900 Super Sports also came with a dual seat and lockable tool box. The solo seat was available as an option. The 1978 Ducati 900SS model year bike is considered to be the finest iteration of the bevel drive square case Super Sports. The 1978 900 and 1979 750s were the last to retain close links with the Imola racers and the last to come with traditional spoked wheels. It was also in 1978 that the Isle of Man TT Formula 1 race was won by a 900 Super Sport, ridden by former World Champion Mike Hailwood in a popular comeback race.

In 1979 the Super Sports were painted black with gold accents to appeal to the British market. Cast Campagnolo alloy wheels replaced the Borrani alloy rims and a Mike Hailwood Replica was made available in very limited numbers painted in lavish green and red colour schemes. The new changes, specifically the black and gold paint and cast wheels were very successful at making an ageing design look more modern. The 1980 model stayed essentially the same with no notable changes. Essentially, the Super Sport was being transitioned into the Mike Hailwood Replica.

The Lagonda brand was founded in 1906 by Wilbur Gunn. Lagonda won the famous  Le Mans 24h race with a Lagonda M45R driven by John Stuart and Luis Fontez. The Lagonda Rapide V-12 1939 was the most expensive car in the United States at the time of its launch. The company however filed for bankruptcy soon after, and was bought by Alan Good, who outbid Rolls Royce for the company. In 1947 Lagonda was bought by David Brown, who had also bought Aston Martin. The brand came back in 1976 with the William Towns designed angular Aston Martin Lagonda, which was released as an Aston Martin car. However the model was discontinued in early 1990, effectively ending the Lagonda brand name at the same time.

Aston Martin decided to revive the Lagonda brand in 2009, to expand outside its traditional sporting realm into untapped segments such as luxury saloons and celebrate Lagonda’s centennial anniversary. “The ASTON MARTIN Lagonda brand would allow AML to develop cars which would have a different character than a total sports car,” said CEO Ulrich Bez in a statement. “Lagonda will have its own niche with luxurious and truly versatile products suitable for both existing and emerging markets”.

The Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf project was undertaken by Aston Martin’s Q division which specialises in commissioning bespoke cars and customising existing models to  specifications. The final full-size model was completed in 8 months of the first studio sketches in January 2014. Marek Reichman attributed the swift execution to lessons learnt from the production of the Aston Martin One – 77, which took two years.

The TARAF is intended as a homage to the Aston Martin Lagonda, which was produced between 1976 and 1990. A total of 645 of those cars were produced, each of which took 2200 man hours to build.

Specifications

The Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf is powered by a 48-valve, 6-litre V12 producing 540HP and 465 lb-ft of torque. It has a maximum limited speed of 195 miles per hour (314 km/h).

Production

Top Gear reported that the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf was undergoing hot weather testing in Oman in September 2014. The car was put through 14,000 miles (23,000 km) of testing in four weeks in temperatures ranging between 30–50 C. The car was subsequently unveiled in the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The car began production in 2016, with the company saying that only 200 cars will be made. The Taraf is produced in Aston Martin’s plant in Gaydon, Warwickshire. When Andy Palmer took over as the CEO, he had the car’s potential markets widened to include Europe, USA, Singapore and South Africa. He also had the number of cars to be produced increased to 200.  The car is the most expensive four-door saloon in the world as of April 2017.

The body panels are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), which then receives a seven-layer paint job besides polishing and elbow grease. The car made a run at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The production will end by December 2018, with 150 cars expected to have been sold by then.

ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE V8 4.7 SPORTSHIFT – SOLD

ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE V8 4.7 SPORTSHIFT

Aston Martin Vantage V8 Sportshift SS first registered in 2008 and only covered 18,850 miles by one owner from new. Full Aston Martin service history – new tyres. Full finance facilities available.

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning Aston Martin Vantage V8 SS. Finished in Meteorite Silver with Obsidian Black Upholstery with silver stitching. This beautiful Vantage has the following special optional extras: Brake Calipers – Silver, Fascia Trim – Gun Metal Fascia, Front Grille – Bright Finish Grille, Front Parking Sensors, HID Headlamps – Wash And self levelling, Aston Martin Premium Audio, Garage Door Opener + Auto Dim Mirror, Memory Seats And Mirrors, Power-folding Mirror Assembly, Satellite Navigation, Heated Front Seats, Seatbelts – Warm Charcoal, Sports Pack – Sports Pack With 5 Spoke alloy Wheels.

SPECIFICATION

In May 2008, Aston Martin announced many new technological updates for the Vantage, which included many changes to the engine, transmission, suspension and appearance. New cylinder liners that were now pressed into the aluminium block instead of the original cast-in variants allow a thinner liner, which in turn allows a larger capacity of 4.7 L. The cylinder bore and stroke has been increased from 89 mm (3.5 in) to 91 mm (3.6 in) and 86 mm (3.4 in) to 91 mm (3.6 in) respectively, giving a total displacement of 4735 cc. The dry sump lubrication system was also performance modified.

SPORTSHIFT

The “Sportshift” semi automatic transmission benefited from an intelligent software update, while a lightened flywheel was introduced for both the manual and the Sportshift. Aston Martin also stiffened the suspension and now uses uprated Bilstein dampers. An optional sports pack is being offered with stiffer springs, tighter handling, and all-new 5-spoke alloy wheels. Sportshift-equipped models also receive a new electronic dual throttle mapping update which allows the driver to choose from the default sport mode, or comfort mode, which gives more comfortable gear shifts and throttle input for much improved driveability.

UPDATES

New wheels are also part of the Aston Martin Vantage V8 update including a 20-spoke alloy wheel and a new 5-spoke aluminium wheel for the highly desirable sport pack. The interior has been changed slightly, using an updated console similar to the Aston Martin DBS and the DB9.

The update provides the Vantage with 420 bhp (310 kW) (an 11% increase) and delivers peak torque of 470 N⋅m (350 lb⋅ft) (a 15% increase), providing the car with additional reserves of mid-range performance and an improved top speed. Combined European fuel economy and CO2 emissions are also improved by 13% on the Sportshift, so faster, more economical, more comfortable to drive but still remains the British gentleman’s express with enviable style and subtlety. Added to the above is a much better gear change up and down the gearbox.

Specifications

LaFerrari is the first mild hybrid from Ferrari, providing the highest power output of any Ferrari whilst decreasing fuel consumption by 40 percent. LaFerrari’s internal combustion engine is a mid-rear mounted Ferrari F140 65° V12 with a 6.3-litre (6262 cc) capacity producing 800 ps (588 kW, 789 bhp) @ 9000 rpm and 700 N·m (520 lbf·ft) of torque @ 6,750 rpm, supplemented by a 163 PS (120 kW; 161 bhp) KERS unit (called HY-KERS), which will provide short bursts of extra power. The KERS system adds extra power to the combustion engine’s output level for a total of 963 PS (708 kW; 950 bhp) and a combined torque of 900 N·m (664 lb·ft). Ferrari claims CO2 emissions of 330 g/km. The engine’s bore and stroke is 94×75.2 mm with a compression ratio of 13.5:1 and a specific power output of 94 kW (128 PS) per litre. It is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the car is rear wheel drive.

Equipment

The car is equipped with carbon-ceramic Brembo discs on the front (398 mm) and rear (380 mm), with the car sitting on Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires measuring 265/30 R 19 and 345/30 R 20 respectively.

Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta uses a carbon fibre monocoque structure developed by Ferrari’s F1 technical director Rory Byrne, with a claimed 27 percent more torsional rigidity and 22 percent more beam stiffness than the Enzo. It has a double wishbone suspension in the front and a multi link suspension in the rear.

LaFerrari has a number of electronic controls including ESC, high performance ABS/EBD (anti-lock braking system/electronic brake distribution), EF1-Trac F1 electronic traction control integrated with the hybrid system, E-Diff 3 third generation electronic differential, SCM-E Frs magnetorheological damping with twin solenoids (Al-Ni tube), and active aerodynamics to enable maximum performance.

Performance

Ferrari states that the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta has a top speed exceeding 217 mph (349 km/h), similar to the Enzo’s top speed, however, it is capable of reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in under seven seconds, and a speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) in 15 seconds.Ferrari also claims that the car has lapped its Fiorano test circuit in 1:19.70 which is faster than any other road-legal car Ferrari has ever produced.

The F50’s engine predated the car; it was used in the Ferrari 333SP for the American IMSA series in 1994, allowing it to become eligible for the stock engine WSC category – World Sportscar Championship.

FERRARI F40 Cat Non Adjust 1991

Ferrari F40, 1991, Cat, Non Adjust, 8,200 miles, one owner from new, Rosso Corsa with red cloth seats, manual wind up windows, Ferrari Classiche Certificate. Exceptional car in exceptional condition. All documents and manuals with Ferrari service history. tools, EU tax paid.

As early as 1984, the Maranello factory had begun development of an evolution model of the 288 GTO intended to compete against the Porsche 959 in FIA Group B. However, when the FIA brought an end to the Group B category for the 1986 season, Enzo Ferrari was left with five 288GTO Evos development cars, and no series in which to campaign them. Enzo’s desire to leave a legacy in his final supercar allowed the Evoluzione program to be further developed to produce a car exclusively for road use. In response to the quite simple, but very expensive car with relatively little out of the ordinary being called a “cynical money-making exercise” aimed at speculators, a figure from the Ferrari marketing department was quoted as saying “We wanted it to be very fast, sporting in the extreme and Spartan,” “Customers had been saying our cars were becoming too plush and comfortable.” “The Ferrari F40 is for the most enthusiastic of our owners who want nothing but sheer performance. It isn’t a laboratory for the future, as the 959 is. It is not Star Wars. And it wasn’t created because Porsche built the 959. It would have happened anyway.”

The Ferrari F40 body was designed by Leonardo Fioravantiand Pietro Carmadellaof studio Pininfarina, under the guidance of Nicola Materazzi, the engineer who designed engine, gearbox and other mechanical parts of the car and had previously designed the bodywork of the 288 GTO Evoluzione, from which the F40 takes many stylistic features.

Drivetrain and suspension

Power came from an enlarged, 2.9L (2936 cc) version of the GTO’s IHI Twin turbos developing a 478 bhp, according to Ferrari. Most experts today agree the number was well over 500 bhp. The Ferrari F40 did without a cat until 1990 when US regulations made them a requirement for emissions control reasons. The flanking exhausts guide exhaust gases from each bank of cylinders while the central pipe guides gases released from the wastegate of the turbos. Engines with catalytic converters bear F120D code.

The suspension setup was similar to the GTO’s double wishbone setup, though many parts were upgraded and settings were changed; the unusually low ground clearance prompted Ferrari to include the ability to raise the vehicle’s ground clearance when necessary.

Body and interior

Ferrari F40

The body was an entirely new design by Pininfarina featuring panels made of Kevlar, carbon fibre, and aluminium for strength and low weight, and intense aerodynamic testing was employed. Weight was further minimized through the use of a plastic windshield and windows. The cars did have air conditioning, but had no sound system, door handles, glove box, leather trim, carpets, or door panels. The first 50 cars produced had sliding Lexan windows, while later cars were fitted with wind down windows.

Aerodynamics

The Ferrari F40 was designed with aerodynamics in mind. For speed the car relied more on its shape than its power. Frontal area was reduced, and airflow greatly smoothed, but stability rather than terminal velocity was a primary concern. So too was cooling as the forced induction engine generated a great deal of heat. In consequence, the car was somewhat like an open-wheel racing car with a body. It had a partial undertray to smooth airflow beneath the radiator, front section, and the cabin, and a second one with diffusers  behind the motor, but the engine bay was not sealed. Nonetheless, the Ferrari F40 had an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.34 with lift controlled by its spoilers and wing.

This is an opportunity to buy a simple mechanical iconic supercar in the right specification – don’t miss it.
