New 2016 McLaren 650 S CanAm Limited Edition, 1 of 50 cars worldwide. Manufactured to commemorate the 50th anniversary of McLaren in the Canadian-American championship.
McLaren is never one for ignoring its racing past, and the British firm has announced a new Can-Am special edition of the 650S Spider.
This limited edition model has been designed to celebrate McLaren’s 50th anniversary of the inaugural year of the Canadian-American Challenge Cup. The race series ran from 1966 to 1987, and featured drivers such as Graham Hill, John Surtees, Jackie Stewart and Bruce McLaren.
The 650S Spider features a livery and decals that hark back to McLaren’s original sports racing car, which racked up five consecutive championship wins in the hands of Bruce McLaren from 1967 to 1971. It’s created in partnership with McLaren Special Operations (MSO) and also gets extra carbon fibre parts, including the front spoiler, bonnet and airbrake.
The folding hardtop is also made from carbon, while a set of unique lightweight forged alloys can also be had with titanium bolts. New front wing louvres and a revised stainless steel exhaust system is said to give this special 650S a ‘unique soundtrack’.
Performance figures for the Can-Am are unchanged (0-62mph in 3.0 seconds, 204mph). The speical edition can be had in three colours, and the interior features a dedicated numbered plaque on the driver’s door.
Our car is finished in black/red as above. Delivery due 11th July 2016.

Only 50 will be made worldwide, in one’s choice of Mars Red, Papaya Spark, and Onyx Black, all inspired by McLaren factory and customer race teams in the past. Production starts in 2016, in commemoration of Can Am’s Golden Jubilee.

The Porsche 964 is the company’s internal name for the Porsche 911 manufactured and sold between 1989 and 1994. Designed by Benjamin Dimson through January 1986, it featured significant styling revisions over previous 911 models, most prominently the more integrated bumpers. It was the first generation 911 to be offered with Porsche’s optional Tiptronic automatic transmission and four wheel drive as options.
The 964 was considered to be 85% new as compared to its predecessor, the Carrera 3.2. The first 964s available in 1989 were four wheel drive equipped “Carrera 4” models; Porsche added the rear wheel drive Carrera 2 variant to the range in 1990. Both variants were available as a coupe, targa or cabriolet. The 964 Carrera was the last generation sold with the traditional removable Targa roof. A new naturally aspirated engine called the M64 was used for 964 models, with a flat six displacement of 3.6 litres. Porsche substantially revised the suspension, replacing torsion bars with coil springs and shock absorbers. Power steering and ABS brakes were added to the 911 for the first time; both were standard. The exterior bumpers and fog lamps became flush with the car for better aerodynamics. A new electric rear spoiler raised at speeds above 50 mph (80 km/h) and lowered down flush with the rear engine lid at lower speeds or at rest. A revised interior featured standard dual airbags beginning in 1990. A new automatic climate control system provided improved heating and cooling. Revised instrumentation housed a large set of warning lights that were tied into the car’s central warning system, alerting the driver to a possible problem or malfunction.
